How you score

Your ranking rules, exactly.

Every institute ranks differently — ePravesh models yours, not a fixed formula.

Scoring modes

Weighted, single-field or manual

Weight multiple fields, rank on one, or enter by hand. Bulk-import from Excel and correct individual entries.

Tiebreakers

AND / OR rule groups

Ordered rule groups — e.g. higher aggregate, then older date of birth — resolve ties deterministically.

Category & display

Category ranks, controlled visibility

Category-wise ranks, plus control over what each candidate sees — rank, score, category rank or breakdown — with a "declared, contact institute" fallback.

How it works

Draft privately. Publish confidently.

Four steps from scoring formula to a published, defensible merit list.

1
Define

Pick the scoring mode, weights and tiebreaker rules for the course.

2
Generate

A ranked draft snapshot of all paid applicants is built — one working draft at a time.

4
Publish

Each candidate sees their result according to your display flags.

Pair it with the AI Counseling Suite.

On publish, the WhatsApp and email agents tell every candidate their result and answer "what's my rank / what next?" — so your office isn't buried in status calls. See the Suite →

Export cleanly for notice boards, affiliating bodies and internal records.

Merit Lists is a configurable part of the admission engine — enabled per institute. Available, not always-on; switch it on for courses that need ranked selection.

FAQ

What admission committees ask about ranking.

Can ePravesh match our own ranking formula?

Yes — there is no fixed formula. Choose weighted scoring across multiple fields, rank on a single field, or enter scores by hand, and bulk-import from Excel where marks come from elsewhere. Individual entries can be corrected. Merit Lists is a configurable part of the admission engine, enabled per institute and switched on for the courses that need ranked selection.

How are ties resolved?

By ordered rule groups you define, combined with AND / OR — for example higher aggregate first, then older date of birth. Because the rules are ordered and applied deterministically, two candidates on the same score resolve the same way every time the list regenerates, which is what makes the ranking defensible if it is challenged.

Can we review the list before applicants see it?

Yes. The engine builds a ranked draft snapshot of paid applicants — one working draft at a time — and nothing is visible to candidates until you publish. Filter by category, correct any entry and export to Excel or PDF for internal sign-off first. You can also unpublish a live list, correct it and re-publish, with every action landing in an activity log.

Who appears in the merit list?

Only confirmed-paid candidates. The draft snapshot is generated from paid applicants, and results are gated by payment, so half-finished applications never turn up in the ranking. That keeps the list clean without anyone manually stripping out unpaid rows before publishing.

What does a candidate see when the list is published?

Whatever your display flags allow. You control per-course whether each candidate sees their rank, their score, their category rank or the full breakdown, with a "declared, contact institute" fallback when you'd rather they came to your office. Category-wise ranks are supported alongside the overall list.

Can we export the list for our affiliating body?

Yes — export to Excel or PDF for notice boards, affiliating bodies and internal records. The same export serves the internal sign-off step before publishing, so the file the committee approved is the file you circulate. Exports run from the same screen as the draft review.
