About MSc Computer Science
It is Post Graduation Course recommended for the candidates completing BSc in computer or other relevant stream. MSC Computer Science is reputed course offered by many education institutes affiliated to Pune University. This course can provide better insights into practicality of the information technology and its industry usage. MSc Computer Science course has 6 months of internship in the second year as part of curriculum. It helps students to gain practical experience by working in any organisation for 6 months related to software development, software testing etc.
Many Education institutes conduct entrance exam for admission to MSc computer science course. So apart from your BSc academic performance, your entrance exam score is also critical for getting admission for the course.

Mathematical Logic: Propositional Logic; First Order Logic.
Probability: Conditional Probability; Mean, Median, Mode and Standard Deviation; Random Variables; Distributions; uniform, normal, exponential, Poisson, Binomial. Set Theory & Algebra: Sets; Relations; Functions; Combinatorics: Permutations; Combinations; Counting; Summation; generating functions;recurrence relations.

| Digital Logic: Logic functions, Minimization, Design and synthesis of combinational and sequential circuits; Number representation and computer arithmetic (fixed and floating point).
Computer Organization and Architecture: Machine instructions and addressing modes, ALU and data- path, CPU control design, Memory interface, I/O interface (Interrupt and DMA mode), Instruction pipelining, Cache and main memory, Secondary storage. Programming and Data Structures: Programming in C, C++, Java, PHP; Functions, Recursion, Parameter passing, Abstract data types, Arrays, Stacks, Queues, Linked Lists, Trees, Binary search trees, Binary heaps. Compilers, Linkers, Loaders, Assemblers, Compiler Design: Lexical analysis, Parsing,Syntax directed translation, Runtime environments, Intermediate and target code generation, Basics of code optimization. Operating System: Processes, Threads, Inter-process communication, Concurrency,Synchronization, Deadlock, CPU scheduling, Memory management and virtual memory, File systems, I/O systems, Protection and security.
Databases: ER-model, Relational model (relational algebra, tuple calculus), Database design. (integrity constraints, normal forms), writing Relational Algebra queries, File structures (sequential files, indexing, B and B+ trees), Transactions and concurrency control.
Computer Networks: ISO/OSI stack, LAN technologies (Ethernet, Token ring), Flow and error control techniques, Routing algorithms, Congestion control, TCP/UDP and sockets, IP(v4), Application layer protocols (icmp, dns, smtp, pop, ftp, http); Basic concepts of hubs, switches, gateways, and routers.
Object Oriented Software Engineering: UML: Class, Object, Sequence, Activity, Collaboration, Component, Deployment, use case, and State Transition Diagrams. |
Preparation Tips
Revise your Aptitude and Mathematical Formula
Learn basic of Aptitude tests and mathematical formula. Most of the entrance tests include aptitude based questions. There are many books available in the market to brush up and practice aptitude and mathematics based problems
Focus on your Strong Area
If you are good in programming skills then prepare thoroughly by including entire syllabus contents of your strong area topics. In case of your weak areas try to gain basic information related to definitions and theory. Most of the entrance exams has negative marking. So it is better to solve questions focusing on your strong area and skipping questions where you are weak. It is better to skip questions when negative marking is enabled for the exam.
Discussion with existing MSC students
It is good strategy to meet existing students and understand how to cracked the entrance test of particular college. Most of the students are available on social networking sites. So you can try to catch them for guidance about entrance exam format, question paper and cut offs for the particular college.
